PAWSITIVE EFFECTS AT A GLANCE
Pawsitive Effects, Inc. is making a difference in the future of pets lives. Our non profit organization is focused on finding permanent loving homes, promote the importance of spay and neuter programs, proper animal care, pet retention, share local pet resources and help 11 non profit pet rescues and shelters. The money we raise helps them continue to save the lives of so many homeless, abandoned, sick, abused and injured dogs and cats in Highlands and Hardee County Florida.
Forever in our hearts,
Little Syd the Sloth
Where it all started...
Being passionate about animals and having a small crew of our own lead us to the creation of Pawsitive Effects, Inc. Being a financial contributor for years helping organizations all over the country was our way of helping with the cause. Have you ever watch one of those devastating commercials where an animal is shaking in a cage or kennel sitting on a hard wet cement floor? Or watching a dog tied to a tree shivering in the snow all the while depressing music plays in the background. Well we have, and as usual our checkbook came out and we made a donation. We did that for years and spent thousands of dollars over time never knowing if it helped or made enough of a difference. After moving from a major metropolitan city to a rural town in 2007 we saw more than we could have imagined or even handled in the way of how the homeless pet population was. Sure, we always knew the good, bad and the ugly of homeless pets as it provoked us to write a check to give us peace of mind. That peace may have been for the moment but just never seems to be enough. When we witnessed the need for so much more in our own small community, it made us get on board to really get involved. After having a horrific experience with trying to help a dog named Gracie at local shelter, we saw deplorable conditions, poor management and lack of compassion toward these animals is what encouraged us to get serious about getting involved. The more we learned the more concerned we got as we saw the lack of public participation in pet adoptions locally, awareness of the rescue resources available, the need for low cost spay and neutering, facilities that offer low cost vetting, help with food and basic animal care all that contributes to helping the public with pet retention.
It was with these findings that fueled us to take the next step that would enable us to have the impact in a community that would actually make a difference. With a desire to focus on our communities pets needs we launched our non profit
501 (c)(3) Pawsititve Effects, Inc. in May of 2014.
Pawsitive Effects, Inc is NOT a pet rescue. Our organization was created to support the local animal rescue organizations and county shelter that share in the same mission, values and goals that are dedicated to the needs, well being and the future of homeless animals.
It was easy to understand that without these rescues, the fate of the sick, injured, abused, abandoned and dogs and cats that require special needs would make the difference in whether that animal walked into a forever home or leave in a plastic bag. After learning about the day to day operations and financial responsibilities these rescues have was astounding. We found that the qualified non profit rescues we support are 100% reliant on public donations, grants and fundraisers. Operating a rescue is no easy task as it is a 24/7 day to day operation that often relies on the help of fosters and volunteers as they work around the clock to meet the needs of these animals. The costs involved are staggering depending on the condition on intake of an animal to the vetting which can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars, rehabilitation and training before it can be adopted out. Most of these rescues being in a rural area are inundated with so many animals, they've often found themselves over extended, financially crippled and ensure that the needs of their rescue animals are met before their own. To these organizations, they believe every animal deserves a chance and money is not going to deny them of what they need to survive and live a happy and full life. WE AGREE!
To us, this was what we were meant to do and we did just that! And so it began, our journey of helping these rescues financially, promoting their adoptable and educating the public of their existence. Being business professionals in marketing, wholesale, retail and service industries, we put our knowledge and experience to work.
We are excited about the things we've accomplished in such a short time and are proud of the support received from the community. The past 5 years has had more of an impact on our lives as much as it has on those animals that survived, thrived and are living the life they deserve. As you will learn what started out as a personal mission has grown to be more than we could have ever dreamed. We can truly say it has all made a difference as we witness every day and know that every contribution that is made is truly used to have a PAWSITIVE EFFECT on an animals life.
Thank you for your support, contributions, hard work and dedication to Pawsitive Effects.
We could not do it without you!
